World's First-Ever Robot Citizen To Help Fight COVID Pandemic, Mass Production On The Cards

Sophia is the world's first-ever robot citizen. The robot was developed by a company named Hanson Robotics which is based in Hong Kong. She was activated on February 14, 2016, before making her first public appearance at a South by Southwest Festival (SXSW) in mid- in Austin, Texas, as per a TNN report.

In 2017, Sophia got a citizenship and was also branded a United Nations Development Programme's first-ever Innovation Champion.

She is very popular on the internet and tech enthusiasts love to discuss her. It appears she will be put into mass production now so that she can assist in the fight against the COVID pandemic

Sophia can show over 50 expressions on her face. In addition, she can recognise people and also talk.

In 2019, she attended the International Round Square Conference in Indore.

"An ideal world would be one where humans could have a more expansive understanding of time. They could remember the past so as not to repeat it. They could see each other as children and elderly simultaneously," she said while addressing the people present.

"The world of COVID-19 is going to need more and more automation to keep people safe. Sophia and Hanson's robots are unique by being so human-like. That can be so useful during these times where people are terribly lonely and socially isolated," Hanson Robotics founder and chief executive David Hanson said while speaking to Reuters.

Hanson Robotics plans to sell thousands of units before the first half of 2021 is up, but no number has been determined.

Sophia is also on Twitter. Her profile is 'Sophia THe Robot'.

COVID has held the world hostage for a year now and our way of life has been hit hard. Sophia's mass production could make our lives easier in every way.
